craft trafficThis is part of our traffic mini-tips series for selling crafts. Increasing traffic to your crafts website is the number one activity you should work on. Increase your website traffic and you will increase your online craft sales. Guaranteed!

Don’t be afraid of links. Put lots of them into your website. Link to lots of different pages within your own website and link to other websites. Links help with traffic in lots of ways.

Firstly, they provide easy navigation for your users, the easier it is for a user to get around your site the more likely they are to stick around and have a look at your crafts for sale!!

Secondly, search engines love links; links help them index your site, which means they make a record of more of your website pages. This is all good for increasing your standing with the search engines and getting better ranking in search results.

It will enable the search engines to see more of your web pages and to see that your site is full of great relevant content, which they love!

So, even if you don’t have many links coming into your site yet from other sites, just put lots of links within your own site to your won pages and put lots of links to external sites that you think are useful and interesting to your readers.

Selling crafts? If you join one craft forum….join this one…

Hi everyone,

So, you’ve got your crafts website up and running but you have no traffic. You are feeling lonely and want to tell the world about your new website and get some feedback. Well, the best thing you can do is join a craft forum. I totally and completely recommend that you join this forum, now:

http://www.craftsforum.co.uk/

I’m not on a referral commission or anything like that. I just believe that joining a good craft forum and becoming an active member of it is one of the best things you can do.

Joining a forum has two massive benefits.

1. It will help you network and learn from others, about crafting, and more importantly about selling your crafts. There is no better way of speeding up your learning and increasing your skills, as a crafter and marketer, than by asking someone who has already been there and done it.

2. Become an active member and post answers and help others learn and improve. This is a great thing to do in itself, but also by doing this you will be seen as an authority and expert in your niche. This will get you traffic to your crafts website and will get you sales.

You see, forums are a fantastic way of getting traffic and sales. Don’t forget each time you post you should leave your signature in each post, this links to your website. Other forum members will then visit your site. Also, Google and co. love forums as they provide quality links to your site, so they will rank you higher in search results.

So, I highly recommend joining a craft forum and I recommend the UK “craftsforum”, it has loads and loads of active members and they are so helpful and friendly. I go on it everyday and always learn a great deal.

Now, if you want to learn more about using forums to get loads of targeted traffic to your craft website I highly recommend you get this:

Selling crafts traffic tips 3: Include meta tags in your website code

There is a lot of debate about the continued use of meta tags within website code. Many think it is no longer used by Google etc.. to get information about your site.

The way I look at it is this; it only takes a few minutes to add the tags for each webpage you make, so you might as well include it. Better safe than sorry. Neither Google nor any other major search engine has outright come out and said don’t bother with them. So get them in there.

To find out what they meta-tags are right click ‘view source’ on most websites and you will see them at the top of the code. You don’t need to understand it all, just cut and paste the meta-tag code within the ‘head’ tags and change the details to be relevant to your webpage.

And remember the easier it is for search engines to find your crafts website and think that it is relevant the better, as you are more likely to appear higher in the search results and hence get more clicks and craft sales!!

Selling crafts traffic tips 2: Include keywords throughout your website copy

brochures2This is part of our traffic mini-tips series for selling crafts. Increasing traffic to your crafts website is the number one activity you should work on. Increase your website traffic and you will increase your online craft sales. Guaranteed!

One of the most important things you can do to help increase your crafts website traffic is to include your relevant keywords and phrases within your website copy. Now lots of people know this and happily pop in their main keyword into the middle of their website copy.

That’s fine but it is much more effective to include two your keywords throughout your copy. So, it is crucial that you include your keywords in your main title, in any sub-headings, in the first paragraph and in the last paragraph. Plus you can include it a couple of more times too if the copy has room.

Also include your keywords in any links that you can, as the anchor text. Do this for any links that go to external sites but also for any internal links within your website.

Lastly if you can make the URL’s of your web pages to include the keywords that is even better!!

Google and Yahoo will love you if you have all these keywords within your site, of course within relevant copy that has informative value for your readers. When a potential customer types in any of your keywords you have a much better chance of ranking well in the search results and hence getting more visitors to your website.

Selling crafts traffic tips 1: Choose relevant keywords and phrases

brochures2This is part of our traffic mini-tips series for selling crafts. Increasing traffic to your crafts website is the number one activity you should work on. Increase your website traffic and you will increase your online craft sales.  Guaranteed!

Always choose relevant keywords and phrases to use within your website copy. For example if you are writing copy about a handmade fabric brooch, be sure to include keywords such as ‘handmade’ ‘fabric brooch’, of course, but also think of lots of other words that potential customers might type into the search engines.

Think of long tail phrases as well as single words, so for example ‘unique handmade fabric brooch’, ‘fabric brooch in flower shape’. Whatever words are relevant for the particular webpage you are writing, include them throughout the copy, several times.

The more relevant your keywords are the more likely it is that potential customers will find your website by typing in these keywords in search engines. Google and Yahoo etc.. will rank your website higher in search results if they think your website is the most relevant to a search query.
